Documenting Your Journey

Documenting your journey to a fit life, whether through writing it down or through pictures is not the easiest thing to do. You sometimes forget or you may be too shy or embarrassed to take the pictures and put them out there to the world. you’re not alone! Both of these were true for me. I am not the most organized person and I am often scatter brained so I would forget and by the time I remembered I was already settled into bed so I would put it off to the next day in which I would forget again. I had to force myself to be organized which for me started with creating a brand for myself on Instagram which forced me to keep up with pictures of what I am eating, my workouts, and my body progress. Then came this blog which forced me to put into words all of the thoughts I have about my diet, workouts, and again my body progress. The good thing about using apps is they automatically track your progress based on what you do. They keep track of how long you worked out, how far or long you ran, or you weight loss as you input and update them. With the technological resources we have now it is easier than ever to track our progress.

The real question though is why do it? What is the purpose for documenting your progress? For me is isn’t about getting praise from others on how well I may be doing but rather it’s so I can see the progress myself which motivates me even more. Others will often see the progress you through the changes in your body or habits but you have to see these changes yourself as well. To me there is no better feeling than being able to see the changes in myself more than when others see it but that may not be true for everyone. When I felt my pants getting looser and my shirts getting bigger it drove me to continue what I was doing to drop down more and more. When I started my journey I was wearing a size 38 pant and an XXL shirt and now I am currently at a size 34 and wear large shirts. It is a humbling experience to feel and see your own progress as well as to notice the energy gain. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter so noticing the energy gain didn’t take long. Having to run around to keep up with her was draining me before but now I out last her with ease.

Is there a stopping point on your journey? I don’t think so because more than being about the weight loss it’s about creating a healthy lifestyle and habits and maintaining them. If you stop and fall back to what you were doing then you will end up in the same place you were when you started. A quote than I saw and really liked was “If you give up then you will end up right back where you started and when you started you were desperately trying to get to where you are at now”. For my journey I am looking for this to be a lifestyle change. I want to raise my daughter with healthy habits That she could live by for a healthy lifestyle down the road.
